July 6 Update
By Bud | July 6, 2008
Hope everyone had a great and safe Fourth of July. Peter, Janet and I attended the Colorado Rapids MLS game against the New York Red Bulls Friday evening and enjoyed a Colorado victory, 4-0, and a fireworks display after the game. My mother, my sisters, Janice and Marcia, and Janice’s husband Mike were here to visit this weekend. It was nice having more family here and I am really glad they came. Peter was also glad to see them. We took them on a tour of the hospital and they watched Peter and me play a game of horse on the basketball court. I am happy to report that I beat him two out of three games. It was close. Rules are I have to shoot from a chair. The competition helps him keep a positive frame of mine. He has turned into a pretty good shot hittting some key shots from 17 feet out. Sit in a chair and try your luck.
Over the weekend we think we are seeing more mobility. We will try and confirm this tomorrow in P/T class. One thing we are sure of that is different this week is we are getting some perspiration around the calf area. At night he wears the compression system to prevent blood clots. With a spinal cord injury, your body does not sweat below the injury. Janet first noticed it Thursday and then I noticed it Friday. Saturday our favorite nurse, Kris, came in and we asked her to verify that there was perspiration around the calf area. She confirmed there was. Just a small sign but we will take any sign God gives us as a blessing and it gives Peter the courage and strength to continue his fight. He is maintaining a very positive attitude. I think it really helped my family seeing him have the attitude that he expects to beat this occurrence. We even spent about two hours of physical therapy on our own. He is working hard.
Today I would appreciate you reciting this scripture for Peter. Proverbs 4:20-22
My son,pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words.
Do not let them out of your sight; keep them within your heart;
for they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body.
All we have is hope. The medical field can not give us a prognosis. The Word of God is all we have and by having hundreds of people repeating the verses with us will give us the strength of God to continue the fight.
God bless everyone
He will walk again.
