August 7 Update

By Bud | August 7, 2008

As we close this chapter in our journey to recovery, we must reflect on the blessings we have experienced.

First, God has blessed us and provided for us. There are so many miracles that have already happen that we know God is watching out for us and is in the process of healing Peter. He has given us so many signs that He is working in us and through us. Janet and Whitney for their unquestionable love and devotion and their help taking care of business and preparing for us back home.

Second the many visitors we have had both physically and spiritually. The ones near that have taken their time to see we are being taken care of to the ones that traveled many miles just to come and see Peter. From the first visitors like Pastor Bob Green from Arrow Heights Baptist church visiting us in Hawai’i to our last visitors, Scott Bess bringing Peter some OU collectibles, Charla Isbell from Broken Arrow and our good friend Bob Carpenter, play by play announcer for the Washington Nationals, bringing two fine young men and ball players with him, Steve Shell and Collin Balester.  And all of you in between. Visits from people that did not even know us that came by to boost our spirits. The many cards and emails you have sent have meant so much to us and the support you have given will forever be appreciated. I want everyone to know that your support has kept us going.

Third is the staff here at Craig. The nursing and physical therapy staff have been incredible. Our main nurse Kris has been an inspiration to us and has been Peter’s biggest cheerleader. Peter’s quiet charm has stolen Alissa, the physical therapist, heart.  She has realized that Peter is a competitor, like herself, and their matches on the Wii game have been memorable. Peter is kicking her butt. This competitiveness is why he will walk again.

Fourth are the other patients we have grown to love. Darling Ashley who stole my heart the first time I met her. She is special and she will do special things in her life. One will be taking Peter and me to an OU/K-State football game in Manhatten, KS. Dale the 60 year old Arkansas Razorback that touched me when he said he had lived a good life but it tore him up to see the young kids having to go through this devastating injury. The many others that have been here with us, Keith, Addie, Tony, Marshon, Pat, both Nathans’, Brian, April, Will, Jeff, and of course my latest love, Katy. They are all so special and I vow to them today that I will continue to fight and pray for their recovery.

Fifth and probably the most important one. I’ve learned things from my son and about him. Yes I knew these things were there, I just did not know how deep they were instilled in him. He has taught me so much since May 23rd. His attitude is unmatched by anyone. He has approached everyday as a new beginning and that progress will be made today. He is a young man, even before his injury, that always wanted to help others. He always had and still has a tender heart for other people. He does not like to see other people hurting both physically and emotionally. He loves everyone. He is my hero.

So tomorrow we return to our home, the Tulsa Metro area. We can no longer say we are only from Broken Arrow, although that is where our base begins. The whole Tulsa community has become our home. From Jenks to Coweta, Sand Springs to Broken Arrow, and Owasso to Bixby. All of you have been marvelous. I can not leave out the others from across the country. We have received prayers and support from Maine to California, Florida to Washington and Texas to Minnesota, everyone has become part of my family. Your thoughts, prayers, and support have shown that people generally want to help others. Keep up the good work and strive to make a difference in someones life everyday. You are making a difference in our lives.

Peter’s fight is not over. We do not know where the next chapter will take us, but we promise to keep you informed. It will be continued rehab, we just do not know exactly where it will be, but it will be wherever the best rehab is available.

I have provided a link below for you to watch. Please take the time to view. It may make a difference in your life.

Hopefully some of you will be there tomorrow to welcome us home, If not, we know we are in your prayers and your support is with us because you know that……………

He will walk again
