August 13 Update

By Bud | August 13, 2008

I hope all of you received my email in time to watch ABC Primetime on “Medical Mysteries.” There might have been a few things on the surfers myelopathy that might discourage you about Peter, we saw more positives than negatives. Joe, the main person they interviewed was at Craig in Denver after his injury. Our nurse, Kris, was his nurse while he was at Craig. She told us that Joe had no movement below the waist when he left Craig. As you saw on the show he is gradually getting some movement back. We did not know the other young man,but now we have found eight people that this has afflicted in the last two years. He looked like he was making great progress. We are going to try and contact him.

Being home has had its blessings. We want to thank everyone that welcomed us home Friday. It was great to see everyone and it made Peter feel special. He is more determined now to not only walk for himself, but to walk for you. He knows you are pulling for him.

Continuing rehab here in Tulsa is going to be a challenge. There is not one facility that is really equipped to handle rehab for spinal cord injuries. Most rehab centers are for people who have had strokes, car accidents with broken bones and sports related injuries. I have made contact with another lady here in Tulsa that has a spinal cord injury and she told me she has ran into the same problem. We are still searching for a solution.

Please pray for us to find a solution to rehab. We also need your prayers to make the adjustments of living outside of a hospital and living in the real world. Peter still needs some help in his daily routine. Our house is partially complete, but some of our equipment for Peter has not arrived that will make our daily routine easier. We are trying to find enough activities to keep him busy and to keep that part of rehab going. Needless to say, this is a huge change in our lives and we need your prayers everyday to give us the strength to continue our fight.

We will make it through this transition and we will figure out what is best for Peter in his recovery. He is still determined and focused on succeeding in his mission.

He will walk again
Bud
