Sept 25 Update

By Bud | September 25, 2008

Peter is continuing his therapy at OU Med Center and here in Tulsa at St. Johns. All therapist that he is working with have given the opinion that his quads, hamstrings and glutes are firing better. They are still a long way from perfect but they are seeming to get stronger based on all therapist opinions.  Tuesday morning he had a more intense MRI and we met with Dr. Malone, a neurosurgeon here in Tulsa, on Thursday morning to review the MRI. Dr. Malone is trying to determine what really caused this situation to happen. His philosophy seems to be that once we determine the exact cause, recovery might come faster. He is consulting with a specialist in Cleveland, OH and we are already in the process of transferring records to Cleveland. The MRI showed no current swelling but there are some enlarged blood vessels in the area of the injury.  It is all very technical, but Dr. Malone has told us that too much blood on the spinal cord could cause the same problem. I know that God has pointed us in this direction for some reason, so please pray that this could be the direction not only for Peter’s recovery, but many others that suffer from this devastating injury.

I was in New York Monday and Tuesday attending the Miami Project annual fund raising event at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel with the master of ceremonies being Bob Costas. Five years ago I was standing on the stage of the Grand Ballroom at the Waldorf with my associates at the American National  convention. The same ballroom that I use to try and stay up on New Years Eve with my dad and watch on the old black and white, Guy Lombardo and his orchestra bring in the new year. Monday there was a video of my family discussing the fight we are up against on that same stage. Five years ago I never dreamed I would be back in that ballroom for the reason that I was there and that my family would be part of the main feature. Peter was one of the victims of SCI that was spotlighted to help promote spinal cord research. Life has many twist and turns. The fund raiser raised over 7 million dollars for SCI research. It was a great evening and Tuesday I attended a conference on updated SCI research. With what I heard Tuesday, I feel we are going the right direction for Peter’s recovery. Many things are on the horizon, but in the meantime it is very important to work the lower body and keep the muscles working as much as possible. I want to thank the Miami Project for all they are striving to accomplish and to Scott Roy, of the Miami Project, for the fantastic job he and his associates did on the film.

Please keep us in your prayers and remember Katie Rennie and Jeff Bent, two patients still back at Craig.

With your prayers and God answering those prayers……………………….

He will walk again
Bud
