October 17 Update

By Bud | October 17, 2008

We are finally finishing up in Cleveland and headed back to Tulsa this afternoon. We just left the consultation with the doctor. This week Peter had two more MRI’s, one on spinal cord and the other was on the brain,  and Peter has verified that he did see a John McCain ad inside the MRI. There was also an angiogram, lumbar puncture to check spinal fluid, and several blood test. We met with a neurosurgeon, neurologist, and vascular doctor. We came here for two reasons, 1. To make sure Peter’s spine is now getting proper blood flow of which it is and 2. to try and determine what caused this situation to happen. On number 2 there is still no logical reason of what caused this to happen.  It was a stroke on the spinal cord. It is just a rare situation and we can not determine why it happen to Peter and can not determine who might be candidates for this to happen to in the future. It could happen to anyone, but usually to young adults between the ages of 14 to 30 and first time surfers.  In other words it is still a mystery to the medical profession. This we do know, recovery is going to be a long hard rehabilitation process and Peter needs your continued support and prayers. We must continue to do very aggressive rehab and this is a huge undertaking for anyone let alone a 19 year old boy that is use to being as active as Peter was. Please keep in touch with him and offer your encouragement to him so he will have the strength and courage to continue therapy. His spirits are still good and Janet, Whitney and I will do what ever he needs and wants to see this through so that………………………..

He will walk again.
