December 23, 2008 - Tuesday

Peter will be taking a little break from therapy over the holidays but only for a few days. We will not be going back to the LoKoMat at OU Med Center until Jan. 5th and of course local therapy is closed for most of the holidays. At the OU Med center, Peter has been able to walk 90 feet with a walker with the therapist supporting his knees. We have our orders from the therapist of what they want us to be doing during the holidays. The reason we have our orders is because the plan is for him to be able to be in leg braces by February. Professor Amy and Professor Shirley at OU feel very confident that as long as we do our part this goal will be achieved. At St. Johns here in Tulsa last Thursday, Peter did crawl with very little assistance about 9 feet 4 times. That would be a total of 36 feet. The therapist are telling us he is making miraculous progress. Janet, Whitney and I see it, but sometimes it is hard for Peter to realize since he is wanting it to happen much faster. That is were the mental side comes in and sometimes it is very hard to overcome the negatives but so far we have been able to stay the course and focus on the positives. We are still praying and I ask your prayers for sensation to return, but movement is good and we hope and pray that sensation will follow more movement.

The holidays are a tough time when you are fighting the battle that Peter faces. I can tell you this, it would be a lot tougher if we did not have your prayers and thoughts daily. All of you have made this ordeal bearable through your cards, emails and phone calls. We really appreciate every one of them and never think that we don’t want to be bothered. We love hearing from you and especially Peter. Feel free to give him a Christmas email at peter.jessee@gmail.com. I really think it would boost his spirits. Keep the prayers going and I ask you to add another to your prayer list. My sister-in-law’s, Patty Jessee, nephew, Drew Crossland, is in Afghanistan and has been wounded in the arm. He will recover and be sent back to his unit. Please pray for his safety and courage.

It is Christmas and it is time to remember what the season is really about. “For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16  On Thursday we celebrate the day that God honored that commitment. Thank God for that gift.

He will walk again
