Mar 8, 2009 - Sunday

Peter has been doing real well on his leg braces. So well that the OU Med. professors are already talking about getting him ready for crutches. This after only having the braces for one full week. They told him that once a patient gets braces it usually takes months to get them ready for crutches. They feel he is ahead of the game. At home we have a long driveway that is flat so we have been doing daily walks, when the weather is nice, with the braces and walker. Peter is able to go 100 feet without resting. We then rest and turn around and walk back another 100 feet. We are trying to do this twice a day. Yesterday he was complaining about pain in his tail bone. I know this sounds positive that he would feel pain there, but it is starting to cause some anxiety on the mental side. He has been feeling some tingling sensation in his tailbone for about a month. Being able to keep him motivated for therapy and his daily routine is becoming more of a challenge every day. We know that we must continue our fight. We see the improvement, but convincing him that we are gaining ground is a constant struggle. Week ends are the worst. He feels isolated and is tired of not doing anything else but therapy. He just does not understand why the muscle mass is not returning quicker. Somehow we will overcome this, we just need to figure it out. Monday, March 16th will be Peter’s 20th birthday. Maybe if you could send him an email or a birthday card, it might help lift his spirits. peter.jessee@gmail.com. or 4525 E. 105th Street, Tulsa, OK 74137.

Last Wednesday was a special day. My Oklahoma American National associates had a state meeting here in Tulsa. My good friend and associate, Vic Bruns, arranged for Coach David Page of Pawnee, OK  high school and father of freshman guard Keiton Page of the Oklahoma Sate Cowboys mens basketball team, to obtain an autograph basketball. Coach Page presented the basketball to Peter at our state meeting. Thanks to OSU Coach Travis Ford and the OSU Cowboys and Coach Page..

Last week I realized that Peter was carrying a yellow index card with him. He dropped it and when I picked it up for him, I realized what it was. It was a card that Cale Fulps, Broken Arrow quarterback, had sent him while we were in Denver. It has become worn and wrinkled from Peter reading it so often. It was a bible verse.  Isaiah 40: 30-31  “Even youths grow  tired and weary, young men will stumble and fall.  But if you believe in the Lord, he will renew your strength. You will soar on wings like eagles, You will run and not grow weary, walk and not be faint.” “Hang in there!  We all love you. Cale Fulps.” This card is his inspiration to continue his fight so that someday……………………………………….

He will walk again
