April 13, 2009 - Monday

By Bud | April 13, 2009

Happy Easter to everyone. Easter weather was rainy here so as my Mom and Dad always said, “if it rains on Easter Sunday it will rain the next seven consecutive Sundays”. On the farm raining seven consecutive Sundays is not always a bad deal. When it rained, I did not have to work.

What is the progress report for Peter? I will let Professor Shirley James of the OU physical therapy school address that issue. Here is the report she sent home Friday with Peter and Whitney.

Subjective Comments: “Peter is doing well”. He laughed and joked with Whitney, Pete(an assistant at the LoKoMat) and I today.”

Objective: Peter walked about 40 feet with bilateral loft strand crutches with about minimal assistance to maintain his balance. He also walked about 120 feet with his walker. This is much easier. He is maintaining his hip flexors well. He advances both legs with no assistance. We tried unlocking the right knee today and he was able to take 5 steps with it unlocked. He seemed to straighten his knee and hip with his leg muscles, however he helps with his arms.”

“Peter is doing great.”

This is improvement. The support means that the machine was supporting only 33 lbs of Peters weight so he was supporting roughly 120 lbs of his own weight. Guidance means that the machine was doing 25% of the force to move his legs and Peter was doing 75%. We praise God for these results and know that your prayers and ours are being answered.

On May 1st we will not be able to use the therapy pool at Jenks High School. St Francis rehab is discontinuing their clinic there. This pool has been a big part of Peters recovery. We have asked the Jenks school system to allow us to continue using the pool. We are awaiting their answer. If there is anyone that has a suggestion or can help us out with the Jenks school system, it would be greatly appreciated.

Easter is a special time and the words “He arose” has a special meaning to us this year. Peter is rising again, slowly but surely. The attached picture shows that he is now able to walk on the walker unassisted. The attachwd picture was taken Saturday and he walked 230 feet in about 30 minutes. God is in the healing business and answering our prayers and with your continued support and prayers, Peter will make a 100% recovery and………………………….

He will walk again
